சரியாக எத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பாக என்பது நினைவில்லை. 1999 உலகக்கோப்பை போட்டியாக இருக்கலாம். இந்தியா-பாகிஸ்தான் ஆடும் கிரிக்கெட் போட்டி நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. வெற்றி நிலை மாறிக்கொண்டே இருந்தது. அண்ணாசாலை விஜிபி ஷோரூமுக்கு முன்பாக சாலையில் நின்று பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். இந்தியா தோற்பது போன்ற ஒரு சூழல்.
நடுத்தர வயதுடைய ஒருவர் வெறுப்பாக சொன்னார். “துலுக்கப் பசங்கள்லாம் கொண்டாடுவானுங்க! பாகிஸ்தான் ஜெயிக்கப் போவுது!!” இத்தனைக்கும் அப்போது இந்திய அணிக்கு தலைமை தாங்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தவர் முகம்மது அசாருதீன்.
இறுதியில் வென்றது இந்தியா. சாலை என்று பாராமலும் ‘ஹூர்ரே’ என்று குரலெழுப்பி, ஹைவோல்டேஜ் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு துள்ளிக் குதித்தவர் கமெண்டு அடித்த நடுத்தர வயதுக்காரர் அல்ல. அவருக்கு அருகில் இருந்த இளைஞர். தலையில் வெள்ளைத் தொப்பி. திருவல்லிக்கேணிகாரராக இருக்கலாம்.
நியாயமான காரணங்கள் ஏதுமின்றி, வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும் போதெல்லாம் இஸ்லாமியரை இழிவுபடுத்தும் தேசமாக இந்தியா இருக்கிறது. ‘பாகிஸ்தான் ஜெயிக்க வேண்டும்’ என்று சொல்லக்கூடிய ஒரு இஸ்லாமியரை கூட இதுவரை நான் சந்தித்ததேயில்லை. ஒரு இஸ்லாமியனாக பிறந்திருக்கக் கூடாதா? என்று நான் ஏங்கியிருக்கக்கூடிய சந்தர்ப்பங்கள்தான் அனேகம்.

ஷாருக்கின் ‘மை நேம் ஈஸ் கான்’ ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கும் தாக்கத்தின் ஒரு சதவிகிதத்தை கூட என்னால் வார்த்தைகளில் வெளிப்படுத்த முடியுமா என்று தெரியவில்லை. ஒரு இஸ்லாமியராகவே மனதளவில் வாழும் சாரு போன்றவர்களின் விமர்சனம் சரியான வெளிப்பாடாக அமையும் என்று நம்புகிறேன். அடையாளம் தொடர்பான அரசியலை மிக நுட்பமாக பேசும் படம் இது. உணர்வுகளை அலைக்கழிக்கும் இதுபோன்ற திரைப்படங்கள் வெளியாவது அரிதிலும் அரிதாக நடக்கும் அபூர்வம்.
ஏதோ வாயில் நுழையாத பெயருடைய நோய் கொண்ட ரிஸ்வான்கான் சூழ்நிலை காரணமாக அமெரிக்கா செல்கிறான். மூளை தொடர்பான நோய் அது. புரிந்துகொள்வதிலும், பேச்சிலும், நடத்தையிலும் மற்றவர்களிடமிருந்து சற்றே வேறுபட்டவன் ரிஸ்வான். ஆயினும் அவனுக்கு வேறு சில விஷயங்களில் அதீதமான மாற்று ஆற்றல் உண்டு.
அமெரிக்காவில் இளம் விதவையான மந்திராவை சந்திக்கிறான். இயல்பாக மலரும் காதல் திருமணத்தில் முடிகிறது. மந்திராவுக்கு ஏற்கனவே ஒரு மகன் உண்டு. 2001 செப்.11 சம்பவத்துக்கு பிறகு இஸ்லாமியர் மீதான அமெரிக்கர்களின் விரோத மனோபாவம் நீறுபூத்த நெருப்பாய் மாறி, வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கும்போதெல்லாம் வன்முறையில் முடிகிறது. ஒரு இஸ்லாமியன் தனக்கு திடீர் தகப்பன் ஆனதாலேயே மந்திராவின் மகன் ஒரு வன்முறையில் உயிரிழக்கிறான்.
‘கான் என்ற உனது பெயர்தான் என் மகனை கொன்றது!’ என்று மந்திரா கோபத்தில் குற்றம் சாட்டுகிறாள். “உனக்கு தைரியம் இருந்தால் அமெரிக்க அதிபரை சந்தித்து ‘என் பெயர் கான். நான் தீவிரவாதி இல்லை’ என்று சொல்!” என்று கத்துகிறாள். கோபத்தில் விளைந்த இந்த அர்த்தமற்ற வார்த்தைகளை கான் சீரியஸாக எடுத்துக் கொள்கிறான். அமெரிக்க அதிபரை சந்திக்க தன் பயணத்தை தொடர்கிறான். இதையடுத்து அடுத்தடுத்து நடக்கும் சம்பவங்கள், கான் அமெரிக்க அதிபரை சந்திக்க முடிந்ததா? என்பதுதான் கதை.
தான் பிறந்த இனத்துக்கு ஒரு கலைஞனால் செய்யப்படக்கூடிய உச்சபட்ச கைமாறினை ஷாருக்கான் செய்து தந்திருக்கிறார். அமெரிக்க அரசியல், அதன் குடிமக்கள், வர்க்கம் - இவை தொடர்பான வேறுபாடுகளை நுணுக்கமாக பதிவு செய்கிறார். “அமெரிக்காகாரங்களே இப்படித்தான் எசமான்!” என்று புலம்பாமல், மனிதத்தை மதிக்கும் அமெரிக்கர்களையும் கருப்பின தாய் கதாபாத்திரத்தின் வாயிலாக படம்பிடித்து காட்டுகிறார்.
‘அன்பே சிவம்’ படத்தில் கமல்ஹாசனின் நடிப்பைக் கண்டு சிலாகித்தபோது, இனிமேல் இப்படி நடிக்க ஒருவன் பிறந்துதான் வரவேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தேன். ஷாருக்கான் எப்போதோ பிறந்துவிட்டார். ஒரு காட்சியிலாவது கதாபாத்திரத்தின் தன்மையிலிருந்து விலகி ஷாருக்கின் ஹீரோயிஸம் எங்காவது வெளிப்படுமா என்று பார்த்தோமானால் ஏமாற்றம்தான் மிஞ்சுகிறது. அடுத்த ஆண்டு ஷாருக் வீட்டின் கதவுகளை வரிசையில் நின்று விருதுகள் தட்டும்.
ஒரு சினிமாவுக்கு தொழில்நுட்பக் கலைஞர்களின் பங்களிப்பு என்னவென்று படம் வரைந்து பாகம் குறித்து காட்டுகிறது ’மை நேம் ஈஸ் கான்’. குறிப்பாக கஜோலுக்கான ஒப்பனை, உடையலங்காரம் வழியே கதையின் வலிமை வெகுவாக கூட்டப்படுவது அபாரம். ரவி கே.சந்திரனின் ஒளிப்பதிவு, ஷங்கர் என்லாயின் இசை என்றெல்லாம் தனித்தனியாக குறிப்பிட இயலாதவாறு, ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக ஒரு அதிசயத்தை சாதித்துக் காட்டியிருக்கின்றனர் இந்த படக்குழுவினர்.
ஒவ்வொரு அமெரிக்கனும் கட்டாயம் பார்க்கவேண்டிய படம் இது.
அப்போது இந்தியர்களுக்கு?
கமல்ஹாசன் விரைவில் ‘மை நேம் ஈஸ் தெனாலி’ என்றொரு படம் எடுப்பார். 1991, மே 21-க்குப் பிறகு, சென்னையில் வசிக்கும் ஒரு ஈழத்தமிழன் சோனியா காந்தியை சந்தித்து, “நான் தெனாலி, நான் விடுதலைப்புலி அல்ல” என்று சொல்லுவது கதையாக இருக்கும். இந்தியத் தணிக்கைக்குழு அனுமதித்தால் இப்படத்தை இந்தியர்களுக்கு போட்டுக் காட்டலாம்.

When I was a college student in Loyola college some of my (non- Muslim) friends ask me whether you take vegetarian foods and speak Tamil in your house,thinking we take only non vegetarian food and speak Urudu or Hindi only in our house. We read many books and histories but do not try to know about our neighbour. I am born தமிழன் , and I do not know other language (except English) even in our house we speak only தமிழ்.Our mother tongue is தமிழ்.

What is your comment for the whole of Mumbai police giving protection to theatres on the day of release of a film. Can't that film wait for somedays until a compromise is achieved?
India is losing itself due to its secular approach.

சமீபத்தில் “My Name is Khan” படம் பார்க்க நேர்ந்தது, அதிக எதிர்பார்ப்போடு படத்தை பார்த்தால் ஒரு கமர்சியல் மசாலா படத்தை ஷாரூக் மதத்தின் துணைக்கொண்டு கேலிக்கூத்தாக்கி இருக்கிறார். உலகில் உள்ள அனைத்து முஸ்லீம்கள் தீவிரவாதிகளாக சித்தரிக்கப்படும் போது இவர் மட்டும் தான் தீவிரவாதி அல்ல என நிலை நிறுத்தி ஒன்றும் ஆகி விட போவதில்லை.

ஒரு படத்தில் சந்தானம் ஒரு செய்யும் காமெடி சீனை உங்களுக்கு நினைவூட்ட விரும்புகிறேன்,

அதே போல முஸ்லீம்களை தங்கள் மதத்தை தீவிரமாக பின்பற்றுவதால் ஏன் தீவிரவாதி எனக் கூப்பிடக்கூடாது என்று எனக்கு நானே சமாதானம் படுத்திகொள்வேன். தீவிரவாதி என்ற அடைமொழிஇ ந்தியாவில் வேறு யாருக்கும் கிடையாது, முஸ்லீமுக்கு மட்டும் தான். எந்த செய்தித்தாளைப் படித்தாலும், எந்த டிவி பார்த்தாலும் இதே நிலை தான்.
முன்பெல்லாம் கறிக்கைடை பாய், சாம்பிராணி புகை போடுவராக காட்டி கொண்டு இருந்த சினிமா இன்று முஸ்லீம் என்றால் தீவிரவாதியாகவே சித்தரித்து கொண்டு இருப்பது வேதனை. ஜிப்பா, தலையிலே தொப்பி, கழுத்திலே தாயத்து, நெற்றியில் வடு, தோள் பட்டையில் துப்பாக்கி என விஜயகாந்த், அர்ஜுன், படத்தில் எல்லாம் தவறாமல் காணலாம், ஏன் உன்னை போல் ஒருவன் மட்டும் விதி விலக்கா என்ன?.
ஆகவே இன்று முதல் நான் கூற போவது, “my name is Mohamed I don’t care what you think about me”
